Calories are important when it comes to losing weight, as you need them to survive but you need less of them to lose fat! Fortunately there are a lot of different low-calorie foods that you can eat to keep you full and help you cut down on the amount of calories that you consume. There are even some foods that actually burn more calories than they contain, which makes them well worth eating for any dieter.

1. Celery

1 medium stalk of this is only six calories and it’s packed full of water to help you feel full. Nutrients in this include: fiber, vitamin a, potassium and vitamin c. Your digestive system will burn a lot of calories just digesting this, so it’s a great vegetable to eat if you want to lose weight.

2. Lettuce

One cup of lettuce is only 5 calories and your body burns more than that just digesting it. Lettuce is full of water to keep you full, but it’s also high in potassium, vitamin a and vitamin c.

3. Cucumbers

One medium cucumber peeled is 25 calories and tastes great alone or with some salt and pepper. Your body burns a lot of calories digesting this raw vegetable, so it’s awesome for dieters. It’s also high in potassium, iron and vitamin b-6.

4. Zucchini

One medium zucchini is 33 calories and those calories are mostly burned during the digestive process. This vegetable is also high in vitamin c, vitamin a and vitamin b-6, so it’s great for your body.

5. Hot Chili Peppers

If you’re looking to add flavor or heat to a dish without salt or a lot of calories, then this pepper is great. It’s only 30 calories per .5 cups chopped and your body burns most of those calories just digesting it. This vegetable is high in vitamin c, magnesium and vitamin a.

6. Watermelon

1 cup of watermelon is only 46 calories and it’s full of water that will help make you feel full. It’s high in vitamin c, magnesium, vitamin b-6 and vitamin a. Your body uses a lot of energy digesting this, so it will burn off a majority of the calories without you having to do a thing!

7. Cauliflower

One cup of chopped cauliflower is only 27 calories, which makes it a filling choice that won’t ruin your day. It is high in fiber, vitamin c and vitamin b-6, so it’s great for better health.

Your digestive system uses a lot of energy just to digest these foods, which is why they often are known as “negative calorie” foods. Just keep in mind that you should keep track of your calories as you eat them in order to lose the most weight, as you can’t just eat unlimited quantities of these. These are definitely better choices than other snacks, as they take a lot of energy for your body to fully digest. They can help you lose more weight than other foods would, so try them out if you want to make healthier choices.
